nine gold medals

The contestants have come from different countries to participate in the Special Olympics. The last race was about to begin. They had trained for it for months. The spectators had gathered and cheered all the young sportsmen and women. The loudspeakers announced their names for the hundred-meter race. The nine athletes took position and the race began.

On hearing the sound of the gun, the runners started. But one of them had a sharp fall and lay on the ground, crying out in pain. All his dreams and training for winning a medal flew out with the wind. However,
the other contestants stopped running. Showing an outstanding show of kindness and sympathy, they rushed to his help. They stretched their hands to help him to his feet. Then, together, all nine of them, hand in hand, walked to the finishing line.

All nine of them displayed great human compassion, and, therefore, every one of them was awarded a gold medal. All of them were declared winners. The banner that showed 'Special Olympics' could not be truer. The nine beaming faces said it all. The Olympics really became a special one.
